The Lancaster Tab is looking for new writers and we want you!

Come to our open meeting on Tuesday, October 11!

Interested in student journalism? Looking for an exciting way to develop your writing skills while making new friends and getting all the campus gossip?

If your answer is yes, The Lancaster tab might be the right place for you. Whether you’re just starting out or know Lancaster like the back of your hand, we’re looking for writers from all walks of life.

What is the Lancaster tab?

The Lancaster Tab is an information site for students, by students, right here in Lancaster. We post everything from breaking campus news to fun feature articles.

Writing for The Tab means you’re free to write about whatever you want. As long as the article has a link to Lancaster or the university, we will publish it! It could be Netflix’s latest craze, fashion or the ghosts of Lancaster. Or you can report more serious issues like mental health, inequality, and world events.

The Lancaster tab is not affiliated with the university. This means that we can publish articles that unaffiliated student publications cannot publish. Indeed, The Lancaster Tab is a branch of the national site The Tab. We have an assistant editor at Tab HQ in London to help us.

Writing for The Tab can truly make a difference both on and off campus. Our articles have helped share campaigns, raise awareness and have inspired petitions and fundraisers,

What are we looking for?

Anyone with a passion for writing, news, memes, 24-hour library challenges, or campus ducks. In short, we are looking for you!

This year, The Lancaster Tab is looking to recruit feature and news writers, as well as people who would like to manage our brand new TikTok account. No experience necessary!

Why should you join us?

Writing for us means you’ll develop a really solid understanding of the legal ins and outs of journalism, as well as other important aspects of contemporary journalism such as ethics, media law, publishing, and collaboration.

Not only does The Lancaster Tab host some of the best social networks, but we won’t be asking you for a lot of your time either. You can write as many articles as you decide; there is no strict commitment that you must keep.

Whether you’ve never considered journalism before or are serious about getting into the industry, The Tab is perfect for getting your foot in the door. Over the past few years, our editors have taken to the radio to discuss news stories we’ve covered, had stories picked up by national newspapers, and continued to work for national news sites.

How to join us?

We are having an open meeting at the County Bar on Tuesday, October 11 at 7 p.m. It is also the time and place where we have our weekly meetings, where we discuss everything from news to what we will later order from the sultans. Do not hesitate to come and say hello!

If you can’t make it, DM us on Instagram, we’d love for you to join the team!
