Sharjah: The Sharjah International Literary Agency (SILA) signed 120 agreements with authors and publishers during the participation of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) in the 20th edition of the Amman International Book Fair which was recently completed in the Jordanian capital.

The first literary agency of its kind in the United Arab Emirates and the region, SILA was launched in October 2020 by the SBA to facilitate communication between publishers, authors, translators and creators, and to regulate their operations in accordance with the official frameworks in force.

With the signing of the new agreements, SILA will intensify its efforts to protect the intellectual property rights of publishers and writers, in addition to stimulating the Arabic publishing market, while promoting Arabic literary and cultural content globally. .

The SBA pavilion at the Amman Book Fair welcomed many visitors, officials and personalities, including Ali Al Ayed, Minister of Culture of Jordan, who was received by Fadel Hussein Bussaim, Director of SBA in the region of the East. During his visit, the Minister was given a copy of The inquisition, written by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Sovereign of Sharjah, and published by Al Qasimi Publications.

Commenting on the SBA’s participation, Bussaim said the authority is keen to strengthen its regional presence and provide full support to Emirati authors and publishers by showcasing their works at various regional and international cultural events, as these efforts support them. objectives of the cultural project of the emirate as envisioned by the ruler of Sharjah which aims to build bridges between cultures and nations.

“The 120 agreements align with SILA’s goals of supporting publishers and authors in the region, mark their foray into international markets and connect them with their counterparts around the world,” he added.

The director praised the participation of visitors to the Amman International Book Fair and the exceptional attendance at the SBA pavilion. He stressed that the high influx of reading enthusiasts and the growing demand for books are clear indicators of recovery from the setbacks suffered by the regional publishing industry during the COVID-19 pandemic.

An important literary and cultural event in the Arab region, the 20th edition of the Amman International Book Fair saw the participation of more than 360 publishers from 20 countries and hosted several panel discussions, seminars and signing ceremonies. books.
