Israel to soon start production from disputed gas field

Jerusalem, September 20 (SocialNews.XYZ) Israel has said it will start producing natural gas from a disputed Mediterranean sea field “as soon as possible”, despite US-brokered border demarcation talks between Israel and Lebanon.

“Gas production from the Karish platform will begin without delay, as soon as possible,” Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid’s office said in a statement, adding that production “is not related to negotiations (with the Lebanon),” Xinhua news agency reports.

Israel has claimed that the Karish field is located in its economic zone while Lebanon claims disputed waters. According to a report on the Israeli public news channel Kan TV, the negotiations have entered their “final phase” in recent days.

“Israel believes that it is both possible and necessary to reach an agreement on a maritime line between Lebanon and Israel, in a way that will serve the interests of the citizens of both countries,” the prime minister’s office said. .

Such an agreement will be “very beneficial and will strengthen regional stability”, he added.
