What you will do:

Work within the editorial management team to produce an annual list of high quality illustrated picture books, chapter books and young adult novels. Join an innovative, dynamic and growing team of kids at one of the leading commercial publishers

You will be responsible for

  • Work closely with editorial, design and manufacturing departments to guide books through the pre-production process
  • Coding, revision and proofreading of manuscripts
  • Hire, manage and evaluate freelance editors, proofreaders and indexers
  • Create and track schedules
  • Use the title management system to track book data (specifications, etc.) and schedules
  • Contribute to production meetings
  • Track book-related documents for sales and marketing purposes

What skills and experience will you bring to us?

  • Preferred bachelor’s degree
  • 3 to 4 years of experience as an editor or production manager in the book industry
  • Excellent editing and proofreading skills (on paper and electronically, using track changes in MS Word and Adobe Acrobat); solid knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style
  • Experience in hiring and managing freelance writers and proofreaders
  • Proven ability to create and manage schedules
  • Ability to work collaboratively and diplomatically across departments
  • Experience working on illustrated books, an asset
  • Knowledge of Firebrand/Quality Solutions Title Management software an asset
